I have been a governor at Great Moor Infant School for eleven years, taking on a number of roles on the governing body including that of vice chair before being elected as chairperson in September 2010. During this period I have been on the selection panels for teaching staff recruitment at all levels and hold the new certificate for ‘Safer Recruitment’.
I am presently working through the NCSL Chair of Governors leadership development programme, which I hope to complete by October this year. This course has been a catalyst for closer working links with other infant/primary school governing body chairs within Stockport and neighbouring local authorities. Sharing good practice benefits everyone within our school.
My experience within the GB involves membership of Personnel & Finance and General Purposes sub-groups, Standards sub-group, and chair of the Co-Head-teachers Performance Review Panel. The skills I bring to the GB include teaching experience as a full-time lecturer in further education at a Manchester college, and ten years in the role as manager at the Marple Citizens Advice Bureau.
As chair of governors I am a regular visitor to the school and readily available to all members of staff. Any parents/carers wishing to contact me can do so by letter addressed to me, care of the school.
